The purpose of an intranet is to connect people to the information they need.

To help your users find information, avoid distracting them.

  • Be careful to only use technology when it will benefit the users
  • Keep the design simple
  • Avoid clutter and "busy-ness"
  • Highlight what is important

Keep the design simple enough so that no explanation is necessary. If the users see a lot of instructions, they will most likely either ignore them or will assume that the intranet is difficult to use.
